Safety Tips for the Fourth of July Weekend!

|

It’s hard to believe we are mid-year already and the Fourth of July holiday is here. The Fourth is one of my favorite holidays. It’s a great time to be with family and friends, enjoy delicious barbecues and shoot fireworks. Millions of Americans will be on the road traveling out of town and locally to visit friends and family and take part in the holiday festivities. And for many people, these festivities include drinking alcohol. Independence Day is one of the most celebrated, fun-filled holidays of the year, however it is also one of the deadliest due to drunk-driving accidents. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, alcohol was a factor in approximately 40% of roadway fatalities during the 2014 July Fourth holiday.

Here are a few tips to keep you safe during this holiday weekend:

  • If you plan on drinking alcohol, make arrangements for a designated driver before the festivities begin. A taxi cab, Uber or Lyft are good options for a safe drive home.
  • Do not drive late at night. Leave the party early before the roads become more dangerous.
  • Blood alcohol levels apply to boating as well as driving. If you are operating a boat, do not drink.
  • Be cautious, alert and aware while driving. The roads will be crowded with drivers, so keep your eyes on the road and stay focused on driving safely.

Even with careful preparation and safe driving, you may find yourself in an accident due to someone else’s negligence. Contact The Womac Law Firm for a free consultation and talk with one of our experienced New Orleans car accident attorneys about your accident.
