No Punishment for Making an Uninsured Motorist Coverage Claim

|

When purchasing liability insurance, you also have the option of purchasing “uninsured/underinsured” motorist coverage. This insurance provides you with insurance coverage in the event you are in an accident with a driver that either (1) has no insurance or (2) has an insufficient amount of insurance to cover your injuries. I am commonly confronted with concern from my client that they will be penalized by their own insurance company for making a uninsured/underinsured claim on their own policy, i.e., raised premium or being dropped from coverage. Rest assured however, your insurance company is prohibited from penalizing you for making an uninsured/underinsured motorist claim. So, please never hesitate to make this claim.
